Kern’s Bakery building makes list of National Historic Places


The Kern’s Bakery on Chapman Highway, once listed among Knox Heritage’s Fragile 15, has been added to the National Register of Historic Places.

The Tennessee Historical Commission announced eight Tennessee sites have been added also including the LaFollette Coke Ovens and the Cleveland Commercial Historic District.

The bakery building just south of the Henley Street bridge was constructed in 1931. The business had begun in the 1860s.
